Our customs services for hauliers

Import customs declarations We submit UK import declarations on the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) for the goods on your trailer, working with your customer or their supplier to get the invoices, commodity codes and origin details right.

Export customs declarations We raise export declarations and provide the MRN your driver needs, so your load can leave the UK without delays at the port.

T1 transit declarations (NCTS) Moving goods under transit? We prepare T1 transit documents and look after the guarantee requirements, so goods can travel with duty suspended until they reach their customs office of destination.

GVMS and Goods Movement References (GMRs) We help you link declarations to the right GMR so your driver can check in at GVMS ports without a hitch. No more last-minute calls from the check-in booth.

Safety and security declarations We can prepare the safety and security information required for loads moving into the UK and into the EU.

Direct and indirect representation We act as your customer's customs representative with HMRC. For importers that are not established in the UK, we also offer indirect representation, so non-UK customers can still use your service.

Freight forwarding support As well as customs, we offer freight forwarding, so we can help when your customer needs more than paperwork.

Why hauliers choose Red Kite

  • Fewer delays at the border. Declarations are checked before your truck sets off, not when it is already queuing.

  • A real person, not a call centre. You deal directly with an experienced customs agent who knows your loads.

  • Flexible for any fleet. Whether you run one truck or fifty, we fit around your schedules and your customers.

  • Clear, upfront pricing. No surprises on your invoice.

  • Help for your customers too. Importers and exporters who use your trucks can come straight to us, making you the easy choice for cross-border work.

How It Works

  1. Send us the load details. Email the commercial invoice, packing list and route, or ask your customer to send them directly.

  2. We prepare the declarations. Import, export or T1 transit, plus safety and security where needed.

  3. You get the references. We send the MRN and GMR details your driver needs before departure.

  4. Your truck crosses the border. We stay on hand if anything is queried at the port.

Frequently asked questions

Do hauliers need a customs agent? The haulier is usually responsible for making sure the driver has the right references to cross the border, even when the goods belong to someone else. A customs agent makes sure the declarations behind those references are correct and ready on time.

What is a GMR and who creates it? A Goods Movement Reference links the customs declarations for a vehicle to one crossing through GVMS. The haulier normally creates it, and we can make sure the right declaration references are ready to add.

Can you handle T1 transit for my loads? Yes. We prepare T1 transit declarations so goods can move under duty suspension to their destination office.

Do you work with owner-drivers and small fleets? Yes. We work with single-truck operators as well as larger transport companies.

Can my non-UK customers use your service? Yes. We offer indirect representation for importers that are not established in the UK.

How quickly can you turn round a declaration? Send us complete documents and we will work to your departure time. Contact us to discuss your routes and volumes.
